From May 14 to 17, Oleh Yermakov visited the Institute of Physical, Technical and Computer Sciences at Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University (ChNU).
The popular lecture, "Photonics: From Fundamentals to Latest Discoveries 2025", delivered by Oleh Yermakov took place at the atmospheric venue MODI Art&Wine Gallery on 3 May 2025.
On April 29, 2025, the article by Oleh Yermakov and Anton Ovcharenko, the co-founders of the Ukrainian Optical and Photonic Society, was published in the Advanced Photonics Nexus journal. It is the first scientific publication recognizing the support by the Ukrainian Optical and Photonic Society.
On April 28, 2025, Oleh Yermakov and Anton Ovcharenko, the co-founders of the Ukrainian Optical and Photonic Society, visited the School “Basis” in Kyiv to deliver lectures on recent advancements in optics and photonics. Tymofii Shudra, one of the high-school student conducting research work under the supervision of Oleh Yermakov, has also presented his results, which were recently awarded at two international conferences for young scientists.
Optical Biosensing Workshop 2025 is a one-day event consisting of six invited lectures, a pitch-talk session for young scientists and a subsequent scientific discussion, which was held at the Kyiv School of Economics on 25 April 2025. This event gathered the leading Ukrainian experts in the area of optical biosensing to highlight the most promising directions and to share their latest results and knowledge fostering new ideas and collaborations. In total, the event brought together 18 specialists from 7 Ukrainian universities and institutes.
Our second edition of Photonics School was held in Lviv from 19 to 22 March. The school was attended by 20 participants from 5 universities across Ukraine. In total, we provided 1 special online lecture, 5 in-person lectures and 5 practical classes. The topics of classes include general waveguide theory, dielectric and hollow rectangular waveguides, optical fibers and nanostructured fibers, magnetic semiconductor waveguides, photonic-crystal and metamaterial waveguides, metasurfaces, machine learning for design of special-purpose waveguides.
NanoTalks 2025 representing a series of short 10-min. popular talks exploring modern applications of nanotechnology across various fields was held at the House of Scientists in Kyiv on 18 February 2025. It is our traditional annual event promoting the perspectives of nanostructures and nanotechnologies. This year, the event was co-organized with the Scientific Meetings platform. The talks were developed and given by the members of the Ukrainian Optical and Photonic Society.
The invited talk by Oleh Yermakov was given at the conference “Prospects for the Implementation of Innovations in Nuclear Energy” on 26 September 2025. It was devoted to the possible directions of interaction between the Ukrainian Society of Optics and Photonics and the Ukrainian Nuclear Society combining photonics and nuclear physics communities.
We announced the creation of the Ukrainian Optical and Photonic Society at several international conferences including NANO-2024 in Uzhhorod on 21 August 2024 (see the photo) and Hypercomplex Seminar 2024 on 14 September 2024.
We introduced the Ukrainian Optical and Photonic Society and discussed its goals and core values at the Institute of Electronic Physics in Uzhhorod, Ukraine. In addition, we also held a seminar for young scientists who reported on their scientific advancements.
On the Day of Science in Ukraine, May 18, 2024, Karazin University hosted Nano Talks – a series of short popular science talks for a wide audience on nanotechnology.
The first summer school organized by the Ukrainian Optics and Photonics Society together with the student chapters of Optica and SPIE of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University was held from April 4 to April 7, 2024.
Oleh Yermakov gave a popular lecture in Ukrainian discovering the basics of Optics and Photonics, the modern trends and some recent results. It was also the first time that we publicly announced the idea of establishing the Ukrainian Optical and Photonic Society.
